Rihanna won the top prize, video of the year, for her smash hit Umbrella. That tune also won for monster single of the year.

Rihanna performed the single at the awards ceremony, as well as dueting with rock act Fall Out Boy.

Justin Timberlake took home four statuettes, including male artist of the year.

Along with R&B singer Beyonce, he led the field with seven nominations. Beyonce won a single award – most earth-shattering collaboration – for her duet with Colombian pop singer Shakira on the tune Beautiful Liar.

Hip-hop singer Kanye West went home empty-handed after receiving five nominations. He was also not thrilled that Spears took the plum opening slot.

“I can’t believe she would perform. She hasn’t had a hit record in years,” the outspoken hip-hop star improvised during a performance the night before.

MTV brought the show to Las Vegas for the first time, hoping to reverse a sharp slide in viewership for its awards bash.

Last year’s ceremony in New York drew 5.8 million viewers, down from 8 million in 2005 and 10.3 million in 2004, according to Nielsen Media Research.

By contrast, the Grammys drew more than 20 million viewers in February.

Jessica Alba’s Sexy Secret Body!

A lot has been said about Jessica Alba’s sexy body, but the actress herself doesn’t pay attention to news about her weight.

In a recent interview the 26-year-old said that she doesn’t take notice of speculations surrounding her alleged weight loss, and added that she doesn’t diet at all.

“I don’t listen to it. I don’t read it. I think it would make me crazy if I did,” People quoted her, as saying.

Alba further said that she doesn’t do anything to keep her sexy frame intact.

“I haven’t really worked out in two months, but I do like to do yoga. I’m not on a diet,” she said.

The actress, who recently won the female hottie award at the Teen Choice Awards, however, admitted to one healthy habit.

“I drink a lot of water,” she said.

Britney Spears Is Back!!!

In a black bikini Britney Spears opened MTV’s Video Music Awards Sunday night, one of the biggest nights in the U.S. pop music calender.

Wearing a black sequined bikini and black boots, Spears started her much-anticipated premiere performance with racy new single, Gimme More, at the trendy Palms Casino resort in Las Vegas.

“If you’re looking for trouble, look right in my face,” was one of the lines Spears appeared to mime as her “Gimme More” song kicked off.

Not as fit as she was in her “…Baby One More Time” days, Spears still had the look of the young pop star — though notably aged by motherhood and endless tabloid tension. She performed surrounded by a few dozen backup dancers, several of whom gyrated on poles.

This was Spears’ first step on the comeback trail, which will peak when her album comes out in November.

The recent disintegration of her marriage and her subsequent erratic behaviour kept Spears in the spotlight, but there were many who questioned whether she could save her career.

Spears’ last appearance on the MTV awards show was in 2003 when she ended a duet with Madonna with a controversial and passionate kiss.

Performers at the show include: Timberlake, West, Rihanna and Winehouse, as well as Timbaland, Fall Out Boy, Chris Brown, Lily Allen and the Foo Fighters.
